Sherihan started her formal dance training at the age of 14. Beginning in latin ballroom style, she was encouraged by various teachers to branch out into classical training. She began learning ballet, modern contemporary, jazz and tap, but did not stop there. She continued into swing, Irish step, salsa and even a little Mexican folkloric.
She started her bellydance training in 2006 with Erika of Pineapple studio and so began her love affair with the art of Middle Eastern classical and folkloric dances. She honed her skills and gained new understanding from some of the most well-known names in dance from both Egypt and America by travelling to various places in the US to take classes from the masters: Samara Adell, Yousry Sharif, Randa Kamel, and many others.
Sherihan has performed in various venues all over the Chicagoland area including Navy Pier, Lincoln Park Zoo, Aragon Ballroom, and many different theaters. She was the dance director for PURE Chicago for 2 years (one branch of P.U.R.E founded by Kaeshi Chai, NYC), a member of Baladina Dance Company (Directed by Erika Ochoa) and a solo artist.
After dancing in various clubs and restaurants on the Chicago professional circut, she was approached by her friend, the incredibly talented Zahra Gamal with the opportunity to be the co-founder of Yallah! Dance Studio which they ran together for almost 5 years. When Zahra needed to move out of state to be closer to family, Sherihan decided that the show must go on and reformatted Yallah! to be a studio within a studio (Hello, Ballet Chicago!) so that classes could continue. Sherihan is very passionate about sharing the knowledge she has gained with others, and particularily loves her beginners classes. Watching students start to absorb movement concepts in unique ways and find their own rhythm, power, and joy through dance inspires and drives her in her own
continued practice of this art.
